Mission

The mission of the library security department is to protect the patrons, employees and collections of the library; while creating a secure and peaceful environment to enhance educational and professional pursuits of all persons within.

Location/Hours

The Library Security Office is located behind the East Security Desk in the Atrium of the Library on Level 3.

The Library is open:

Fall and Winter Semesters* Spring and Summer Semesters*
Monday-Friday 7 am to Midnight 7 am to Midnight
Saturday 8 am to Midnight 8 am to Midnight

*Towards the end of each semester, hours are normally extended two hours.

*Between each semester break, hours are traditionally from 8 am to 6 pm, special circumstances may alter these times.

The Family History Library is open every 2nd and 4th Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm, except for an occasional conflict with a holiday.

Personnel

Library Security is one of the divisions of the University Police Department. It is comprised of thirty-five civilian security officers, who are full-time students at the University. The division is managed by Sergeant Jeff Strong who is a state certified police officer. The Library is monitored by officers at the entrance and exits, others who patrol the building and staff the control room; where alarms and video cameras are monitored. Officers are trained in a wide variety of areas completing a semester of training in the Security Academy.
