Curriculum Collection
The Social Sciences/Education Department has recently acquired the Education Curriculum Collection. This collection, which previously resided in the McKay Building, consists of elementary and secondary textbooks and curriculum materials from various publishers covering many subjects. This collection is designed to assist pre-service teachers in their preparations. Items from the Education Curriculum Collection can be checked out at the main circulation desk, Level 3, for a 7 day period.
The Utah State Office of Education has joined together with several Colleges of Education, including the School of Education at BYU, in an effort to establish instructional materials resource centers for education students. Publishers are requested, but not required, to participate in sending samples to the College of Education. The samples sent by participating publishers make up this Curriculum Collection.
The instructional materials adoption program is administered by the Utah State Office of Education. The purpose of state adoption of instructional materials is to provide for the schools of the state the best available instructional materials and to eliminate inferior or undesirable materials. Publishing companies that wish to participate in the program are required to send copies of their pre-publication texts and curriculum series to the Utah State Instructional Materials Commission. The commission evaluates the materials and determines which texts are approved for use in Utah schools.
For more detailed information about the Instructional Materials Adoption Process as well as lists of approved materials, check out the Utah Office of Education Approved Instructional Materials Search (AIMS) website.
