Book Reviews
While some databases may carry full-text of book reviews, most will serve as an index telling you what journal (volume, date, and page) contains the review you want. With that information, on the library's home page, select Find Articles in the menu on the left. Then select Journal Finder (Print & Electronic). If BYU does not own the journal, you may place an interlibrary loan request for the review just as you would for a regular article. Book review citations can be found in the following ways.
- Go to the e-Reference Collection and select Book Reviews from the list.
- Use the General Search using the key words book review and words from the subject, author, or title of the book being reviewed.
- The Book Review Index [paper copy] Periodicals, Level 2, covers reviews published in academic journals from 1965 to current.
- JSTOR is an excellent database containing reviews from academic journals going much further back in time than most online indexes. In using JSTOR, put your subject, author, or title words in the regular search box and select "reviews" in the "limit by type" option.
- Reviews of books relating to Mormon topics are listed in the BYU library catalog. These can be found with a regular key word search using the word "review" and a word from the subject, author, or title of the book being reviewed.
