How to Choose a Database

The Harold B. Lee Library provides access to many databases that link to articles on a wide range of topics and sources focused on a single subject or academic discipline. The Info link icon leads to information about content and coverage of each database.

  1. If you know the subject area you need to research (e.g., education, business, psychology.), look at Subjects A-Z, then the subject area you are interested in. Select a subject area from the list of recommended databases, then connect to a database by clicking on its title. These databases include scholarly journals, popular magazines, trade journals and newspapers.
  2. If you are unsure of the subject for your research, try using General Search which  searches over a broad range of subjects as a starting point for research.
  3. If you know the name of a database, connect to the alphabetical list from Databases A-Z.

Consult with a Subject Librarian for more recommendations about sources for your research needs. Read the Step-by-Step and Research Guides prepared by subject librarians for a variety of topics.
