Genealogical Microforms

Several hundred thousand microfilm reels and microfiche containing genealogical and family history information are held in the Lee Library, Microforms/Genealogy department, on the second floor, East wing, down the stairs under the glass entry.

  1. Begin your search in the Family History Library Catalog. Be sure to note the film number you are looking for.
  2. Once you have found the number, click here to find out if the BYU Family History Center has the film.
  3. Then, once you have the film number and know that the Center has the film, you may come to the Harold B. Lee Library, Microforms/Genealogy department, also known as the Utah Valley Regional Family History Center, where consultants at the Reference desk will direct you to the microfilm cabinets.
  4. If the UVRFHC does not have the film, you may request that it be sent to our library from the Family History Library in Salt Lake, well in advance of your visit. Receipt of films requested from Salt Lake is posted on the Patron Films page of the UVRFHC website. Order films in person at the BYU Library, Family History Center, or send a check for $3.25 per film -- list each film number -- to Microfilm Orders, 2248 HBLL, BYU, Provo, Utah 84602.

Family History Library films may not be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan. We cannot guarantee that every film will be immediately available.
