Descriptions of what the Harold B. Lee Library does, who it serves, and what makes it unique
Vision Statement:
The Harold B. Lee Library will actively participate in learning, teaching, and research by identifying and responding effectively to the information needs of students and faculty.
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Harold B. Lee Library is to assist individuals in their quest for perfection by providing information resources and services that support education, encourage learning, and promote spiritual and intellectual growth. The library accomplishes this by doing the following:
- Serving as a center for learning by providing a place for students and faculty to actively engage in study and research;
- Using technology to extend access to library resources and services;
- Selecting, acquiring, organizing, preserving and providing access to scholarly information related to the university's curriculum and research programs;
- Assisting and instructing students and faculty in finding and using scholarly information available at the university and elsewhere; and
- Supporting life-long learning.
Within available resources, services are also extended to BYU Hawaii, BYU Idaho, LDS Business College, the Family History Library, the Church History Library, and local community members. As a research library, the Harold B. Lee Library serves as a participant and partner in local, regional, national, and international academic library consortia.
Harold B. Lee Library Web Site Mission:
The mission of the Harold B. Lee Library web site is to expedite the discovery and delivery of information. To do this the site strives to:
- Organize electronic resources in ways that users can efficiently locate what they need;
- Maintain clear, logical navigation paths among pages and resources for all levels of users;
- Explain how users may capture desired information, and make the process as simple as possible;
- Be an example of clarity, including consistency in style and appearance;
- Provide guidance in how users can effectively conduct research in an academic library;
- Offer full access to on-campus users, while extending access to authorized CES and other remote users to as great an extent as possible;
- Be considerate of users with special needs, such as those with disabilities and those who have a limited fluency in English;
- Make available professional tools and resources needed by library staff;
- Comply with licensing agreement and copyright laws; and
- Be efficiently maintained and updated.
