BYU Graduate and Honor's Thesis Students


Checkout Identification
  • You must have a valid BYU ID card for receive services at the Circulation Desk
  • Graduate students not currently enrolled but working on a thesis or dissertation need a letter on BYU letterhead verifying their status, signed by their graduate committee chair for each semester

Loan Period
  • 13 weeks for most library materials
  • Shorter deadlines for specific items (juvenile literature, special collections, etc.)
  • There is no grace period.

Maximum Items Checked Out
  • You can check out up to 50 items simultaneously

Renewals
  • You can renew most materials two times
  • You need your BYU NetID and password to renew online
  • You must return materials for inventory, but if you still need the items, the library will re-check it out to you and reset the renewal counter to zero

Recalls and Holds
  • Three-week minimum checkout time before an item can be recalled
  • 24-hour recall period for items needed for Course Reserve
  • Recall fine (starting at $10 and increasing each day) for recalls not returned by new due date

Notices
  • First e-mail reminder: 7 days before the due date
  • Courtesy e-mail notice: 5 days after the due date
  • You must return or renew materials by the due date or lose your library privileges
  • You will lose your library privileges if you owe over $3 in library fees

Overdue Fines
  • $1.00 per day, per book, with a maximum fine of $10.00, per book
  • Your library account is blocked when one item is overdue
  • Pay fees at the Circulation Desk by check, signature card, or money order

Billing for Lost Items
  • Billing notice for lost library materials for items more than four weeks overdue
  • Bill includes the replacement cost of the book and a non-refundable $25 processing fee

Proxy Users
  • Patrons with disabilities can designate another person to check out books on their account
  • Visit the Circulation Desk to pick up the request form for a proxy card
  • You need to renew proxy privileges by submitting a new form at the beginning of each semester
  • The other person needs a proxy card and his/her own BYU ID to check out material
  • Patrons are responsible for any materials checked out on their account
