Library Privileges for Other Library Patrons Checkout Identification
- You must have a valid BYU Spouse/Dependent card or BYU Special-Use
card to receive services at the Circulation Desk
Categories of Patrons and Library Fees/Donations None of these categories allow external access to licensed electronic
resources. If you have any questions about library privileges, please
contact the Circulation Department at 422-6061.
- Spouse and Dependents: Spouse and dependents of full-time BYU employees,
no charge
- Alumni: Graduates of BYU Provo, Hawaii, & Idaho; verification
and $50 annual donation
- Contributors: Non-BYU alumni; $50 annual donation
- High School Students: public (not private) high schools; additional
form, signed by High School teacher & librarian, picture ID, and
$10 fee for each school calendar year
- Partnership: teachers and Administrators of participating school
districts (generally Utah County); current BYU Public School Partnership
card on first visit only, then Special Use Pass
- Family History Center: service Missionaries at the Utah Valley Family
History Center, located in the HBLL; must be on a list of eligible missionaries
for the semester from the Family History Library
- UALC: faculty and enrolled students at state-funded colleges and
universities, and Westminster College; current ID card from a participating
institution
Loan Period
- 3 weeks for most library materials
- Shorter deadlines for specific items (juvenile literature, special
collections, etc.)
- There is no grace period.
Maximum Items Checked Out
- You can check out up to 15 items simultaneously
Renewals
- Renew most materials at the Circulation Desk
- You are permitted one online renewal per item. To access the online renewal system, you must have a
Route Y Net ID (if you do not currently have a Route Y Net ID, a library employee will set one up for you at the circulation desk).
Recalls and Holds
- Three-week minimum checkout time before an item can be recalled
- 24-hour recall period for items needed for Course Reserve
- Recall fine (starting at $10 and increasing each day) for recalls
not returned by new due date
Notices
- First e-mail reminder: 7 days before the due date
- Courtesy e-mail notice: 5 days after the due date
- You must return or renew materials by the due date or lose your library
privileges
- You will lose your library privileges if you owe over $3 in library
fees
Overdue Fines
- $1.00 per day, per book, with a maximum fine of $10.00, per book
- Your library account is blocked when one item is overdue
- Pay fees at the Circulation Desk by check, signature card, or money
order
Billing for Lost Items
- Billing notice for lost library materials for items more than four
weeks overdue
- Bill includes the replacement cost of the book and a non-refundable
$25 processing fee
